Opening Night

We are kicking off The 2025 Pittsburgh Japanese Film Festival with a wildly fun new anime film from GKids!Opening night tickets come with gift bags and other fun surprises to mark the start of our favorite fest of the year!

Baby Assassins with an Intro

7 pm – March 15 – $13.50


Row House Film Club member and Baby Assassins superfan Peter DiVito will introduce the film and host a Baby Assassins inspired mix tape release afterwards in the taproom.

Samurai Marathon with a Martial Arts Demo

7:15 pm – March 16 – $13.50


See a demonstration from local martial arts master Brent Earlewine — who has earned the Shoden level certification in Muso Ikken Ryu Batto Jutsu Japanese Swordsmanship in Japan. Earlewine also owns Pittsburgh Bujinkan Dojo which specializes in ancient Japanese martial arts.

Gari Shoyu Sando Company Pop Up

1-7 pm – March 17


Gari Shoyu Sando Company will be set up outside of the theater all day selling their unique and amazing sandos! A “sando” is a style of sandwich made with traditional Japanese ingredients on soft, sweet, and spongy bread called shokupan that they bake daily.

Sake Tasting with Yojimbo

7 pm – March 21 – $21


Watch a samurai epic (involving a sake merchant) and taste some excellent rice wine with a special one night only sake tasting! Try several varieties from Bierport’s unique selection before the film.

Enjoy two mochi ice cream in the classic flavors (matcha and strawberry) with this charming, modern Japanese rom com!

Taste some high-quality green tea imported straight from Japan, and enjoy a brief introduction and information about Japan’s tea growing region and process!

To close this year's festival, we'll have screenings of this epic period piece — one with a snack pack and one brew & view! Both showtime attendees also get an invite to a special closing night party at Novo Asian Food Hall in The Strip District.
